Musical legend Caroline O’Connor returns to MTC in Kiss with the Spider Woman, a theatrical premiere that’s set to sizzle and surprise. From Kander & Ebb, the team behind smash-hit shows Chicago and Cabaret, and acclaimed playwright Terrence McNally (Master Class), comes a provocative tale of love, imagination, along with the friendship that develops when humanity is pushed to its limits. Made famous by the initial novel and an Oscar-winning film, the powerful and emotive Kiss with the Spider Woman won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical when it opened on Broadway. Now it arrives in Melbourne, directed by Helpmann-Award winner Dean Bryant (Sweet Charity) having a stellar ensemble cast. Scenes from many of Wasserstein’s plays, including “Uncommon Women among others” (Wasserstein’s first success), “Isn’t It Romantic,” “An American Daughter” along with the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Heidi Chronicles,” were performed, some making use of their original casts.
